Camp Blount Foundation Document Complete

In 2023, the Camp Blount Historic Site Association was awarded a grant from the Tennessee Wars Commission (TWC), a division of the Tennessee Historical Commission (THC), for the completion of a foundation document. Introduced by the National Park Service, foundation documents are planning tools that have been  incorporated into the preservation planning processes by the TWC. The goal of the document is to elevate the status of historic sites by bringing attention to them, as well as build on previous planning documents and processes and move site planning forward for years to come. 

The Camp Blount Foundation Document is the result of years of collaborative effort by a committee of local government representatives, professional historians and archaeologists, CBHSA board members, local business leaders and non-profits, and TWC/THC staff led by a Lincoln County-based preservationist serving as the project coordinator and document author. The document presents a brief historical summary and site description, followed by identified fundamental resources and values, key planning and data needs, and other important aspects to facilitate future planning and site interpretation. 

The Camp Blount Historic Site Foundation Document is available for download to the general public, and a limited number of printed copies may become available at specific locations such as state visitors centers. 

The project was funded under a grant contract with the state of Tennessee, Department of Environment and Conservation, Tennessee Historical Commission and Tennessee Wars Commission.
